The Uses of Film-Faced Plywood Bringing in a Nice Look

Film faced plywood is exterior birch plywood which is used in building and construction projects. It has a special film coating on its surface made from phenol or melamine on both of the sides which gives the plywood a higher resistance to moisture, scratch, chemical degradation, and fungal attack compared to ordinary plywood. According to the color of the film, it can be classified as film faced brown plywood and film faced black plywood.

The brown film is much better than black film. These plywoods are mainly used for construction and are also called shuttering plywood, concrete form, and shuttering concrete form. But for shuttering in construction process WBP film-faced plywood is in demand as compared to MR plywood. This plywood is used for shelves and furniture, too. And, in comparison, this plywood is much better than wood face plywood and it is more expensive because of its quality.

The load-bearing capacity is also improved due to extra compression. It’s good to get veneers impregnated with modified RPF resin for longer life and better performance and stability in all applications. This plywood Resistance to temperature variation: -40 to +50°C. The edge is sealed with Special waterproof acrylic based paint.

How it’s used for outdoor applications?

This plywood is best for outdoor applications such as external surfaces of new buildings because of its increased stability, resistance to moisture and chemicals. Film face plywood is used outdoors in harsh weather because of its extra film layer and acrylic varnished edges. Film-faced plywood surface should be properly cleaned before stored.

Simple and ordinary plywood is also used in the construction industry for processing; for example, to create shuttering boxes, which are used to stabilize and constrain wet concrete as it dries. The standard density of film-faced plywood is 680 to 700 kilograms per meter squared, compared with only 650 to 700 kilograms per meter cubed for ordinary plywood. This can be cleaned with conventional solvents or with water and a suitable natural brush.
